Timeless Classic: All About Eve (1950)

'All About Eve' is a 1950 American film written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and produced by Darryl F. Zanuck under 20th Century Fox film production. The film garnered 14 Oscars nominations and won six including Best Picture. It is the only film in Oscars history to receive four female acting nominations, Davis and Baxter for Best Actress, Holm, and Ritter for Best Supporting Actress. The film was selected by American Film Institute as one of the best American films at #16. 'All About Eve' tells the story of Margo Channing (Bette Davis), an aging Broadway actress who is worried for her paling glitter in the theater industry. Her close friend Karen Richards (Celeste Holm) introduced her to Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter) an obsessed fan who is willing to do all odd things just to be like her idol Margo. Eve became closed to Margo until she got the chance to substitute for Margo's role in a play. The mischievous Ms. Eve never stop her evil plan to destroy Margo and to be in Margo's shoes, she coerces Karen to give the role of Cora which is intended for Margo. Eve got what she wants, she became famous but she also loses herself by letting envy and greediness control her. The film is a perfect example of celebrity idolatry that is driven by the evil intent to manipulate a person in exchange for fame. In the end, Margo is still the winner as she never indulged in any scandalous deal just to get her fame.
